CELEBRATION OF LIFE

The family of Gerry invite friends and neighbours to a Celebration of his Life on Sunday, September 25.  This celebration will be held at Aristos Banquet Hall (behind Smitty’s Restaurant) from 2:00-4:00 pm.

Gerald Peter Murphy passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Chatham Campus on Tuesday February 15, 2022 with his sister Joanne and niece Kim at his side. Gerry was the oldest son of the late Stella (Brouillette) and Gordon Murphy.

Gerry is survived by a sister Joanne Murphy and sister-in-law Gloria Murphy.   Predeceased by sisters; Pauline Murphy, Mary Louise Kuni and her husband Joe and a brother James Murphy.

Gerry is survived by niece Kim and John Bartlett, nephew Darrin and Sandy Murphy, nephew David and Annie Kuni, and niece Joelle and Greg Long. As well grandnephews Andrew, Kyle and Chris Bartlett, Josh and Ben Murphy, Matthew Kuni, Caleb Long and grandniece Chloe Kuni who will always remember Uncle Gerry fondly.

Gerry graduated from King’s s College at the University of Western Ontario. After a short teaching career he left teaching for the business world. He worked for Jostens International where he eventually rose to manager positions across Canada and Europe as well as the Middle East.

Upon retirement he returned to Chatham.  It was here that he became friends with many people including Carol Carson and the Ursuline Sisters who shared a love of mystery writers.

Gerry was a member of St. Joseph’ Catholic Church. He served on the finance committee for many years and was a Eucharist Minister. He brought communion to several of the homebound parishioners. It was here than he became friends with Rick Francis who passed away recently and his wife Theresa. Rick and Gerry were great conversationalist and Gerry missed him over the past months.

 Friends and relatives may visit at Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Monday February 21, 2022 from 2-4 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday February 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church.

Cremation will follow the Mass.
