I feel blessed that I was able to meet Andy a couple of times in Canada, and I am sure his smile will remain etched in the memories of all those he met, as it will in mine.

Andy was a wonderful neighbour to us. He was always so friendly and helpful. He often gave us a scare when we saw him climbing the ladder to clean out the evestroughs or check the roof of the house. We will miss Andy as will all that knew him.

My sincere condolences to Maria and the family!
Even after a long life it remains a loss..., an empty space...
I still have good memories meeting Andre & Maria in August 1984 when they were visiting their roots in Belgium. Easy going and friendly people who could share some of their family history and life experiences in Canada.
May Andre rest in peace and for the family: take care of each other.

Mooie herinnering. Is net zo oud
geworden als mijn mama, zijn tante... 99 jaar.

We have been lucky enough, as a family in Belgium, to meet André (Andrew, Andy) a few times. As the eldest grandchild of my grandfather, he was also born a few months before my mother in Pittem in 1923. My grandfather's youngest grandchild was my younger brother Jan, born in 1963. As a child he went to Canada with his parents but the contact remained. In 1979 we saw each other for the first time in Chatham. In 1984 André and Maria were visiting the family in Belgium. Both spoke Dutch fluently, which made contact with the family easy. Several meetings would follow. The pedigree party of the Callens family was a highlight. But also the meetings at Marion and Joe Lucio and Bob and Bonnie Decan place made a big impression on me. Seeing the family together what could be better than that.
It will be a difficult farewell for Maria after all these years and wishes her a lot of strength. A thousand thanks to Marion and Joe Lucio, the youngest sister and her husband who in recent years have been the big pillars for everything and anything. Sooner or later we all have to go but would have liked to meet André if he would have turned 100. Lucky for us that despite the distance Pittem – Chatham we have seen each other occasionally.
