Obituary of George Zimmer

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
“George” Walter Anthony Zimmer died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday July 6, 2016 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, which he nicknamed “The Launchpad” to heaven. Born in Chatham in 1936, son of the late Blanche (Taylor) and Sebastian Zimmer, he was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Helen “Hono” (Bourdeau). Geo was a creative genius who kept us all laughing until his last hours. He worked in farm drainage and later was a consultant who designed machinery which was used all over North America. Geo never turned down a challenge, and was always a great teacher and a man of great faith. He will be missed by his “geoisms” and his love will live forever. Loving father of Michelle O’Rourke (Tom), Wayne Zimmer (Barb), Mark Zimmer (Lorrie), Joe Zimmer (Tracey), Annette Jones (Robert), Andrew Zimmer (Pat) and Nicole Stewart (Gerroid). Cherished pepe and great pepe to 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Margaret Hobin, Edith Mockler (Richard) and Sr. Mary Zimmer. Predeceased by a sister Ann Zimmer and by brothers Bill, Frank and Jack Zimmer. Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Friday July 8, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday July 9, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Church. Cremation will follow. Donations to the Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated. His request was for people to dress casually for the funeral and remember Luke 9:62.
