Obituary of Michael Matteis

Peacefully, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, Michael John Matteis, age 69, of Chatham, companion of Elaine Goldhawk and former husband of Patricia Matteis. Born in Castelvetere Sul Calore, Italy, son of the late Joseph and Antonietta Matteis.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Joel (Vicki), Jill (Ryan)Graham, Jamie (Leah), Jarrod (Lisa), Justin (April), Jordan (Sabrina) and grandchildren, Quinn, Owen, Kaidance, Ava, Noah, Carter, Parker, Ella, Holden, Luca, Vaida, Jonah and Josephine. Also sadly missed by Elaine’s children, Chris (Lisa) Goldhawk and Lisa Goldhawk and their children Tyler, Krystin and Erik Goldhawk, his sister Diane (Eddie) Mariconda, his brother Tony (Brenda) Matteis, sister-in-law Leona Matteis and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his infant grand daughter Sophie (2011), his brother Generoso, sister Mary (Joseph) Matteis and niece Josie Doto.
Mike was a teacher with St. Clair Catholic District School Board and was a principal from 1982 until his retirement. He was actively involved in the community as President of St. Vincent de Paul Society, Junior Achievement, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and as a Lay Reader at St. Joseph’s and St. Ursula’s Churches.
Friends and relatives may visit at the Funeral Home, 156 William St. S. Chatham (519-352-5120) on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 pm, where Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3 pm.
Members of the 4 th Degree Father James Assembly of The Knights of Columbus will assemble for prayers at 6 pm. Colour Guard will stand watch from 6-9 pm. on and the presentation of the Chalice will follow.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10 am in St. Joseph’s Church.
Cremation will follow.
Donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
