Obituary of Zoe Emery

A resident of Grand Retirement Village, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Monday November 21, 2016 at the age of 102. Born December 30, 1913 in Koekelare, West Flanders, Belgium, she was a daughter of the late Ceasar and Magdalena (Mortier) Delanghe. Beloved wife of the late Harvey Emery (1949). Loving mother of Omer (Marianne) Emery and her late infant son Oscar (1933). Sadly missed by her four grandchildren, John Emery, Diane (Philip) Mathia, Lisa (Americo) Todino and Mark Emery. Also sadly missed by 9 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by a sister, Laura (Bill) Ruysseneldt and several nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by a brother Leon (Madeleine) Delanghe, a sister, Edna (Leon) Leclair and a brother Oscar (Stella) Delanghe and one great granddaughter Danielle Mathia (2015). Zoe farmed with her husband, Harvey, until 1949 in the former Dover Township and later became Secretary at St. Joseph’s Church, Chatham for 35 years. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s (City) Catholic Women’s League for 65 years. The Emery family will receive friends and relatives at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 184 Wellington St. W. from 9 am till 10 am on Friday November 25, 2016. Following visitation, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church at 10 am by Fr. Matt Kucharski. Interment will take place following the lunch in St. Philippe’s Cemetery, Grande Pointe. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sick Kids Foundation or Cystic Fibrosis of Canada would be appreciated.
